With stain-free counters, no need to cry over spilt wine Chicago,IL

There's a lot to love about concrete and granite counter - they're tough, beautiful
and stand up to heat. But spill some wine or tomato sauce on either surface, and
untreated counters will stain. The solution has been to apply sealers, a maintenance
hassle. But now two fabricators have introduced stain-free versions. No-stain stone.
Stonemark®, from New York-based Innovative Stone, is an all-natural granite
countertop that's factory-treated with a process called PermaShield, which penetrates
deep into the stone to protect it from stains. "The PermaShield process is engineered
to fuse to granite and doesn't require any care whatsoever," says Harold German,
director of marketing with Innovative Stone™. And that means no more yearly
sealing. Stonemark® comes to 60 colors and carries a 15-year warranty against
staining and material integrity Prices are $49 to $99 a square foot. For now, it's
sold only at Home Depot stores in the Northeast, but stay tuned for more locales.
