Natural stones protected by PermaShield® have received NSF® International Certification
(www.nsf.org). This Certification states PermaShield® protected natural stones,
with a polished finish, meet the material standards according to NSF®-51 for clean
ability.
NSF® International, founded in 1944 as the National Sanitation Foundation, is known
for the development of standards, product testing and certification services in
the areas of public health, safety and protection of the environment. NSF® Certification
programs are accredited to the international standards through the American National
Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Standards Council of Canada, assuring the highest
level of integrity, quality and acceptance.
PermaShield®-protected natural stones from Innovative Stone™ comply with NSF® 51
standards for Food Equipment as safe materials to be used for kitchen countertops
for commercial and residential applications.
Natural stone countertops protected by Innovative Stone™'s PermaShield® technology
have received GREENGUARD® Certification and GREENGUARD® Children & Schools Standards
Certification. These Certifications state, "PermaShield®-protected natural stones
from Innovative Stone™ meet the air quality standards set by GREENGUARD® Environmental
Institute (GEI) for indoor air quality." In addition to achieving the NSF® Certification,
Innovative Stone™ is proud to offer the first 100% natural stone that has been certified
by GREENGUARD® Environmental Institute.
The key to this accomplishment is the fact that natural stones protected by PermaShield®
are considered by GREENGUARD® to be safe materials to be used for residential and
commercial projects, including schools and universities where extensive time is
spent indoors. The GEI is an industry-independent, non-profit organization that
oversees the GREENGUARD® Certification Program. The mission is to improve public
health and quality of life through programs that increase indoor air quality.
Indoor air quality is a growing concern among consumers who are demanding healthy,
low-emitting products and materials in their homes, workplaces, schools and hospitals.
However, the standards may differ from one region to the next, making it challenging
to identify the best resources or direction. The GEI offers a stringent worldwide
standard that provides a reliable baseline for indoor air quality. The GEI has established
performance-based standards to define goods with low chemical and particle emissions
for use indoors. The GREENGUARD® standard establishes Certification procedures,
including test methods, allowable emissions levels and product sample collection
and handling to ensure accurate results.
